Radio Convoy AFVN

Radio Convoy - "ON AIR" during 'Convoy to Remember 2010'!

This year’s Convoy will be accompanied by a re-enactment of a somewhat different kind: At 95.6 MHz we have a voice that can be received in the whole region on any UKW-radio –  official license granted by the Swiss Federal Agency of Communication.

So it will really fit in, we are not just doing local radio like our existing channels, but are fashioning the whole enterprise according to the pattern of the American Forces Vietnam Network (AFVN), the US soldiers’ channel during the Vietnam war.

The Channel

The makers of Radio Convoy will be setting up a complete mobile radio studio in an army tent.  We are in the year 1971, the equipment (at least what is visible) is original from that time. In a small exhibition, in addition to the equipment mentioned, there will be pictures, documents and objects which show everyday life beyond the fighting in the Vietnam of the 60s and 70s.

The Programme

‘Radio Convoy – AFVN to Remember’ is to give ‘Convoy’ a platform and to take over the sound of the announcer on site. Depending on the presentations, the remaining time will be filled with music of the period. In a further moderated part, wishes for music and other ideas can be integrated - suggestions are welcome!  In the non-moderated part (we are on the air  around the clock), an original AFVN-program will be broadcast: hits of the 60s and early 70s (over 1,000  pieces to choose from) will be complemented with original jingles and broadcasts by AFVN (over 2,000 minutes of raw material on hand).  “Gooood Morning Vietnam!” will ring out from the loudspeakers. However, we are not going to be guided by the film of the same name which made AFVN famous, but by the original AFVN programs which were the model for the film. The definitive ‘Radio Convoy’ program will be handed out on flyers.
